->Chapter 1 - An Introduction to History.
When we study history, we want to find out:
->what happened? (events)
->when it happened? (date)
->where it happened? (place)
->why it happened? (reasons)
->to whom it happened? (people)
->what are the consequences? (effects)
History -> The record and the study of past human events that have shaped the way the world is today.
We also interested in patterns. We look for things that are common to each other. We look for things that have continued or changed over the time.
Why study history?
SEQ Question# Understanding change and how our society came to be - Everything that exists today has came out of the past.
# Learning from past successes and failures - History is full of true stories about real people and real experiences.
# Understanding and respecting one another - People in the past lived in an environment very different from ours today, we learn to understand and respect another who did things differently from us.
# Developing our critical thinking skills - Studying history trains us not to accept everything we read or hear as the truth. It trains us to use our critical thinking to get the full pictures of the past.
